Rev. Jennifer Butler is quoted in a Religion News Service story on faith leaders meeting with Senator Coons and urging the Senate to pass the Equality Act.
“Sometimes religious freedom is used as an excuse to try to discriminate,” she said. “Religious freedom is protected in our Constitution, but … it should be used as a shield and not a sword.”
She added, “Every child was created in God’s image and we’re supposed to love our neighbors as we love ourselves, so it breaks my heart to see my faith used as a tool for discrimination against anybody.”
