One Year from Census Day 2020, Faith and Community Leaders Urge Gov. DeWine to Ensure that Every Ohioan is Counted

Columbus, Ohio — The Ohio Census Advocacy Coalition (OCAC), a newly formed network of Ohio-based advocacy organizations, faith, business, education, and community leaders, are calling on Governor Mike DeWine and legislative leaders to ensure that all Ohioans are counted in the 2020 census.

Members of the coalition will join with lawmakers at the Capitol to urge Governor Dewine and legislative leaders to allocate fully fund the census in the state budget. These funds will ensure that census outreach strategies produce an accurate count. Faith leaders will raise a moral call for a fair and complete Census that ensures all people are counted and all communities thrive.

The census will profoundly impact the future of our democracy and the health of Ohio’s communities. Ensuring a complete count is a moral necessity. An undercount would result in lost political representation for Ohio and underfunding of critical resources statewide, severely impacting communities of color, immigrants and low-income, and rural communities.
