National Faith Leader Responds to Trump Social Media Executive Order

Washington, DC — President Trump is set to release an executive order attacking social media companies, including Facebook and Twitter.

Rev. Jennifer Butler, CEO, Faith in Public Life:

“Americans are grieving the loss of 100,000 of our neighbors and family to COVID-19. Many of these people would be alive today if not for President Trump’s immoral and incompetent response to the pandemic.”

“Instead of prayerfully mourning with us and putting the pandemic at the top of his priority list today, the president is trying to distract us with frivolous attacks against social media platforms. People of faith are neither fooled nor swayed by this shameful misdirection. I call on him to repent. A recent poll showed the president’s favorability rating has fallen by 11 percentage points among white evangelicals and 12 percentage points among white Catholics. His political gambit today is an act of desperation that won’t reverse this trend.”
