National Faith Leader Lauds Biden’s Reversal of Muslim Ban
WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Biden administration began his presidency by issuing an Executive Order ending the Trump administration’s Muslim ban, which devastated Muslim families and made a mockery of religious freedom.
Rev. Jennifer Butler, CEO, Faith in Public Life:
“As a pastor and the leader of a multi-faith network, I rejoice today at the Biden administration’s order ending the Trump administration’s cruel, white nationalist Muslim Ban. A burden of bigotry has lifted, and families who have been cruelly separated can be reunited. We are a better nation for taking an important step to repair the damage done by this immoral policy. A diverse and strong interfaith movement, led by Muslim Americans, brought about this victory for religious freedom, human dignity and justice. I’m inspired by the hard work and leadership of our Muslim partners and commit to continuing to work in solidarity to prevent any emergence of anti-Muslim policies.
History will rightly record the Muslim ban as a codification of white Christian nationalism that ripped apart families and flouted religious freedom. Let us also remember that nationwide airport protests and an interfaith movement rose up to oppose Trump’s bigotry. From the very start of his immoral administration, we stood together. As we move forward, we will work to ensure that the Biden administration’s laudable order is fully and effectively implemented, and continue to work with our Muslim neighbors to uphold true religious freedom for all.”
