National Faith Leader Joins a Multifaith Coalition Calling for the Passage of the Equal Rights Amendment
Washington, D.C.– Today, Justice Revival released an Interfaith Statement for Support of the ERA. It aims to show the wide spread faith based support for the Amendment and address why it is so critically needed at this time.
Rev. Jennifer Butler, CEO, Faith in Public Life and author of “Who Stole my Bible? Reclaiming Scripture as a Handbook for Resisting Tyranny”:
“I am proud to join this coalition of faith leaders, many of whom I call friends and sisters in the faith, in this renewed call to ratify the ERA. This interfaith, multicultural coalition is shoulder to shoulder in our call for a Constitutional amendment that ensures the full dignity and equality of every person in this country. We will not again be divided and separated as women of faith were in the 1970’s- we know that the feigned moral outrage of that time was never about family values, but an attempt to uphold white supremacy and the privilege of a few. As people of faith we must not allow history to repeat itself- we must be united to ensure freedom from disrimination in all its forms including sex and gender based violations. Equal protection under the law must mean codified equal protection for all.”
