National Faith Leader Denounces Trump Administration’s Refugee Cap of 18,000 in Fiscal Year 2020

Washington, D.C. — The Trump administration just announced that the refugee cap for 2020 would be 18,000. This is the lowest point in the history of the refugee resettlement program.

Rev. Jennifer Butler, CEO, Faith in Public Life:

“Jesus was a refugee. He taught that what we do for those in need is what we also do to him. By rejecting so many refugees with this determination, this administration treats Jesus with contempt. Our refugee neighbors and friends bless our faith communities immensely. Welcoming them is our nation’s moral responsibility. As an impeachment inquiry looms over this troubled administration, serious moral failures are being committed through vicious decisions such as this.”
