National Faith Leader Denounces Trump Administration Enabling LGBTQ Discrimination
Washington, D.C. — In the last week of the Trump administration, as President Trump faces impeachment for the second time, the Department of Health and Human Services finalized a rule that would permit government-funded social-service providers to discriminate against LGBTQ people and families in a wide range of areas, from adoption and foster care services to homeless shelters to healthcare, and more.
Rev. Jennifer Butler, CEO, Faith in Public Life:
“LGBTQ people are made in the image of God and must be treated with equality under the law. This mean-spirited, last-ditch policy denies human dignity and sanctions discrimination against our LGBTQ family. As we approach National Religious Freedom Day, I am reminded again that religious freedom must be a shield to defend the rights of all rather than a sword used to harm people. The sacred right is not a license to discriminate. When Joe Biden becomes president next week, he must immediately rescind this immoral, discriminatory rule.”
