National Faith Leader Denounces HHS Rights Rollback Opening Door to Discrimination
Washington, D.C. — The Department of Health and Human Services proposed a rule that would roll back an Affordable Care Act regulation prohibiting discrimination against patients who are transgender. This would put transgender people at greater risk of discrimination, even jeopardizing their access to life-saving care.
Rev. Jennifer Butler, CEO, Faith in Public Life:
“Transgender people are created by God and loved by God. They have an innate dignity which rules out any form of discrimination. The Trump administration’s proposed rollback of crucial protections could cost our transgender friends, families and neighbors life-saving care. We cannot allow anyone to use religious beliefs as a license to discriminate or harm others.”
