National Faith Leader Decries Trump Administration’s Wealth Test for Immigrants

Washington, D.C. — The Supreme Court allowed the Trump administration to start imposing strict criteria over who may be a public charge when making immigration judgements. The changes would impose a ‘wealth test’ on prospective immigrants and would force working low-income parents to choose between providing for their families or being forced to leave the country.

Rev. Jennifer Butler, CEO, Faith in Public Life:

“People of faith have always been on the side of those in need. Today’s ruling gives the Trump administration continued permission to attack immigrant families and communities. I share a religious commitment with people across faith traditions to treat newcomers to our nation with the same dignity, respect and compassion that everyone deserves.”
