National Faith Leader Condemns Trump Memo Excluding Undocumented Immigrants from Census
Washington, D.C. — President Trump signed a memorandum excluding undocumented immigrants from the 2020 Census count.
Rev. Jennifer Butler, CEO of Faith in Public Life:
“President Trump’s latest attempt to turn the 2020 Census into a tool of discrimination is immoral, unconstitutional nonsense. The Supreme Court already struck down his attempt to insert a discriminatory citizenship question into the 2020 Census. Today’s memo is even more brazen and bigoted. It is political theatre for an audience of white supremacists.
Faith leaders in every state are working to ensure that all people in this nation are counted in the 2020 Census. Everyone counts in the eyes of God. Everyone must be counted by our government.”
Faith in Public Life is a national movement of clergy and faith leaders united in the prophetic pursuit of justice, equality and the common good.
