National Faith Leader Condemns Senate Cover-up of President Trump’s Corruption

Washington, D.C. — The Senate voted, largely along party lines to acquit President Trump of Articles of Impeachment for Abuse of Power and Obstruction of Congress.

Rev. Jennifer Butler, CEO, Faith in Public Life (Washington, D.C.):

“Today, every Republican Senator except Mitt Romney turned their back on democracy and cast their lot with a corrupt and lawless president. By absolving President Trump of accountability for abusing his power, these senators put party before patriotism. But they can’t cover up the truth.

While Senate Republicans’ complicity is deeply disappointing, people of faith are determined to defend democracy in 2020. Democracy is about love of neighbor and upholding the truth. We will do everything in our power to ensure that every voter is heard. We will defend our values of equality, justice and human dignity. We will work night and day to ensure that raw corruption in the White House never goes unpunished again.”
