Faith Leader Responds to Department of Labor New Rule Empowering Federal Contractors to Discriminate

Washington, D.C. — The Trump administration has formally proposed a new rule that would enable federal contractors to fire LGBTQ employees and pregnant women on the basis of the employer’s religious views.

Rev. Jennifer Butler, CEO, Faith in Public Life (Washington, DC):

“My faith teaches me that everyone is created in the image of God. That means we all have a right to earn a living and be free from unjust discrimination. The Trump administration’s proposed new rule to allow government contractors to fire LGBTQ workers and pregnant women is bad law and bad theology. Religious liberty doesn’t give any boss the right to harm workers — especially on taxpayer-funded jobs. The Trump administration must rescind this immoral and unconstitutional rule immediately.”
