Community Faith Event Affirms LGBTQ People and Plans Greater Visibility

ASHEVILLE, NC – On Saturday, November 11th at 10 a.m., N.C. Faith Forward, an LGBTQ-affirming coalition, will bring together faith communities in Asheville for a four-hour program to learn about dramatic changes in religious attitudes in North Carolina and exciting new ways affirming faith communities can impact hearts, minds and social environments.

The Asheville gathering is the fifth such gathering held by NC Faith Forward collation since October 7. Other gatherings met in Charlotte, Durham, Greensboro and Wilmington. They have focused on building relationships among LGBTQ people of faith and allies and developing faith-based action plans to work toward a just and inclusive North Carolina. The Asheville gathering is sponsored by the N.C. Council of Churches, the state’s largest network of progressive and LGBTQ-affirming congregations.

The NC Faith Forward Coalition consists of seven organizations: Believe Out Loud, Equality North Carolina, Faith in Public Life, The Freedom Center for Social Justice, Many Voices: A Black Church Movement for Gay and Transgender Justice, More Light Presbyterians, and the National LGBTQ Task Force.
