Christian Author and Justice Leader to Release New Book: Who Stole My Bible? Reclaiming Scripture as a Handbook for Resisting Tyranny
Groundbreaking book helps people of faith use scripture to defy the Pharaohs and Caesars of today.
Washington, D.C. — Rev. Jennifer Butler, CEO of Faith in Public Life, will release her highly anticipated new book on October 20th, Who Stole My Bible: Reclaiming Scripture as a Handbook for Resisting Tyranny, with a foreword by renowned author and theologian Brian McLaren.
In Who Stole My Bible?, readers will see the Bible’s liberative story arc from Genesis to Revelation through reimagined stories of pivotal points in the history of God’s people.
These stories are grounded in biblical scholarship, and each chapter connects a key turning point in the Bible to America today. Each chapter concludes with inspiring social justice movement stories that connect each Bible passage to faithful strategies for resisting tyranny. To read a preview copy of the book, click here. Embargoed copy shouldn’t be made available publicly. For internal use only.
“In this book, I will guide you through the Bible, touching on periods when God’s people resisted despotic leaders; and explore how God inspires and equips us to fight for equality and dignity today,” said Rev. Jennifer Butler.
In 2020, the progressive faith movement is changing the face of religion in politics, breaking the stranglehold White evangelicals have had on media narratives, as well as defending human dignity by resisting tyranny.
This book is a call to action for people of faith to draw strength from the Bible as the story of a God who liberates people from all forms of oppression.
