Catholic Leaders Decry Deportation of Central American Mothers & Children, Call for Humanitarian Response
Washington, DC — A prominent group of Catholic leaders will hold a press briefing call on Thursday, June 9th, at 11 a.m. to oppose deportation enforcement actions targeting Central American women and children by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). As these women and children continue to arrive at the U.S./Mexico border in increasing numbers, Catholic leaders echo Pope Francis’s call that “if we want security, we must give security.”
Fr. Mike Tyrrell, SJ, Secretary for Social and International Ministries, Jesuit Conference of the United States
“As Catholics, we urge the Administration to exercise moral courage in this time of uncertainty. Separating families tears apart the fabric of our communities and our nation. We call our country to respect the dignity of migrants and refugees and do everything in our power to ensure that people in danger have access to protection and due process.”
