After Department of Justice Investigation in Killing of Ahmaud Arbery, Over 900 Faith Leaders Demand Justice

Washington, D.C. — On Tuesday, May 26, the Department of Justice officially launched an investigation into the killing of Ahmaud Arbery as a hate crime. Over 900 faith leaders have signed a petition calling for Attorney General Barr to find the truth and deliver justice.

The letter states, “As people of faith, we believe that all humans are created in the image of God, and thus deserve love, respect and justice. These principles move us to rebuke bigotry and the violence it inspires. Attorney General William Barr, a Catholic, must uphold our shared values by finding the truth and demanding accountability for injustice.”

Rev. Jennifer Butler, CEO, Faith in Public Life:

“I mourn with Ahmaud Arbery’s family and community. While this news is welcome, it cannot undo the stunning loss they have faced. I pray that the Department of Justice does justice. We must work to make sure no more black men are brutally murdered in this country. We owe justice to Arbery and his memory and we owe it to God.”
