National Faith Leader Celebrates House Vote on Equality Act

Washington, D.C. — The House of Representatives passed the Equality Act 236-173. This bill, which would provide comprehensive non-discrimination protections for LGBTQ people, has been introduced every Congress since 1976 but this is the first time it has passed the House. It will now proceed to the Senate.

Rev. Jennifer Butler, Presbyterian minister and CEO, Faith in Public Life:

“My faith teaches that everyone is created in the holy image of God. The passage of the Equality Act is an important step to make sure that the innate dignity of every person is recognized and protected in our country. Discrimination is always immoral – we all deserve justice and equality.”
