GA Clergy Denounce ‘Religious Freedom’ Bill, Call for Study Committee on Comprehensive Civil Rights Bill

Faith leaders urge Georgia lawmakers to reject latest RFRA and focus on protecting all Georgians through comprehensive and inclusive civil rights bill

ATLANTA, Ga. – On Thursday, February 23rd, a diverse and prominent group of interfaith clergy and community leaders will hold a press conference at the Georgia State Capitol underscoring the urgent need for the General Assembly to commission a study committee on civil rights protections. This measure — not another hasty and divisive rush to pass controversial, sweeping religious exemptions — is essential to protecting the equal rights of all Georgians.

These faith and community leaders will denounce Senate Bill 233, a harmful new religious exemption bill, and boldly call for equal protections for every Georgia resident, including members of the LGBT community.
