National Faith Leader Mourns Attack on Chabad of Poway

Washington, D.C. — A mass shooter killed one person and injured three others during a Passover celebration at Chabad of Poway synagogue in California on Saturday. The shooting happened six months to the day of the Tree of Life shooting in Pittsburgh in which a white-supremacist gunman murdered 11 people.

Rev. Jennifer Butler, CEO, Faith in Public Life:

“My heart cries out at the anti-Semitic attack on the Chabad of Poway. It is especially heinous to attack a Jewish community during the season of Passover when they celebrate freedom and safety. This is not an isolated act. Together with the recent massacres at Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh and mosques in New Zealand, we see a growing pattern of white supremacist terrorism wreaking havoc in Jewish and Muslim communities. This violence knows no boundaries and threatens our common safety and our common humanity. Political leaders must take bold action to build a world where all are free to worship and pray without the threat of gun violence hanging over our sanctuaries.”
