National Faith Leader Condemns January 6th Attackers’ Christian Nationalism and Calls for Accountability  

Washington, D.C. — This week, four Capitol police officers testified in the first congressional hearing on the Jan. 6th white nationalist insurrection at the United States Capitol.

“As a pastor, the memory of January 6th attackers wielding Bibles and crosses still haunts me. This week, eyewitness testimony at the January 6th Select Committee hearings offered an important reminder that white Christian nationalism was a driving force of an attempt to violently overturn the 2020 election.

“The January 6th attackers and politicians who refuse to hold them accountable are part of a Jim Crow faction that has stained this country from the beginning. Those of us who look to faith as a source of justice and liberation cannot let violent white supremacy lay claim to God, patriotism, or political power. We must not only counter the forces of racism in our communities and congregations, but also hold accountable politicians who helped perpetrate this grave assault on our democracy.”
