TELECONFERENCE: Bishop Mark Seitz Joins Catholic Educators in Fight to Preserve DACA and Protect Dreamers
As students return to school, Catholic college president and “Dreamer” urge Trump Administration to not deport immigrant students
Washington, DC – On Tuesday, August 29 at 11 a.m., Bishop Mark Seitz of El Paso, Tex. and Trinity Washington University President Patricia McGuire will hold a press teleconference calling on General John Kelly, President Trump’s Chief of Staff and a prominent Catholic in the administration, to protect Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) — a policy that currently protects up to 800,000 immigrants who came to the U.S. as children from deportation.
The Trump administration is considering ending the DACA program as early as this week. Ten state attorneys general, led by Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, have issued an ultimatum to the Trump administration — end DACA by September 5, or face a challenge in federal court.
“Every human being bears within him or her the image of God, which confers upon us a dignity higher than any passport or immigration status,” said Bishop Seitz.
