National Faith Leader Responds to Arrest of George Floyd’s Killer
Washington, DC — Former Minneapolis Police Officer Derek Chauvin was arrested for the murder of George Floyd. While Chauvin was serving as a police officer on Monday, he suffocated Floyd by kneeling on his neck for 8 minutes while Floyd gasped and pleaded for breath.
Rev. Jennifer Butler, CEO, Faith in Public Life:
“George Floyd and his family cry out for justice. Derek Chauvin’s arrest and murder charge are steps in the right direction, but we must remain vigilant until justice is fully done. The video of Chauvin’s callous brutality as Floyd begged for breath speaks for itself. Law enforcement must protect and serve communities of color, not brutalize and repress. White people of faith have a God-given responsibility to dismantle white supremacy so that no child of God lives in fear of bigotry.”
