National Faith Leader Decries Omnibus Spending Bill for Failure to Address Immigration, Health Care Priorities

WASHINGTON, D.C. — President Trump has just signed into law a wasteful spending bill that fails to address the fate of nearly 800,000 young immigrants, known as Dreamers, who remain at risk of deportation if Congress continues to fail to act.

Rev. Jennifer Butler, CEO, Faith in Public Life and Former Chair of the White House Council on Faith and Neighborhood Partnerships:

“The fate of young Dreamers has been in the hands of Congress for the past eight months and they have refused to act. This latest abdication of responsibility leaves hundreds of thousands of people in fear of losing protection and being deported. Dreamers need a legislative fix without any further delay. The only moral course of action is a clean Dream Act which provides a pathway to citizenship and protects all of our families.”

“As a pastor, I am also deeply disappointed in Congress’ failure to pass a health care stabilization bill that provides funding for cost sharing reduction payments and increased tax credits to ensure American families do not face higher premiums and out-of-pocket costs. As our nation marks the 8th anniversary of the Affordable Care Act, our lawmakers should lean on the side of compassion and support health care policy that keep cost low for all Americans.”
