National Faith Leader Applauds Executive Orders to Unite Families Separated at Border

Washington, D.C. — President Biden announced three executive orders today setting the stage for reversal of several of the Trump administration’s cruel anti-immigrant policies. Most prominent among the orders is the creation of a task force to reunite children separated from their families by the former president’s “Zero Tolerance” policy.

Rev. Jennifer Butler, CEO of Faith in Public Life:

“Today’s executive orders by President Biden are a welcome initial step toward redressing the Trump administration’s cruel anti-immigrant, anti-asylum policies that dehumanized and traumatized our immigrant neighbors. These sinful policies, which were rooted directly in white supremacy, ripped thousands of children from their parents’ and caregivers’ arms, and forced vulnerable families to live in inhumane border camps.

Immigrant families are still separated and suffering, and we must move fast to undo this injustice. I urge the Department of Homeland Security to halt all deportations and accelerate their efforts to reunite children with their families.

People of faith will continue to follow the leadership of immigrant organizers of color in the moral movement to treat all migrants with dignity, respect and justice. We will not rest until the Biden-Harris administration and Congress follow through on their commitments to reform our immigration system into one that respects and protects all people who come to this nation.”
