National Christian Leader Responds to Display of Nazi Flag at Sanders Rally
Washington, D.C. — Last night, a protestor at a Sen. Bernie Sanders rally in Arizona waved a Nazi flag before being escorted out of the venue by security.
Rev. Jennifer Butler, CEO, Faith in Public Life (Washington, DC):
“For the first time in our nation’s history, a Jewish American could become the presidential nominee of a major political party. This historic milestone should be met with celebration, not hate. The Nazi flag is an anti-Semitic genocidal threat to everything that our faiths stand for. As a Christian pastor and the leader of a network of 50,000 diverse faith leaders, I pledge complete support for the Jewish community. We stand in solidarity and protection.
“President Trump and the white nationalists in his administration bear responsibility for the climate that produced this attack. Winking at neo-Nazis emboldens them. The president must repent and resign for encouraging white nationalist and anti-Semitic terrorism.”
