Faith Leaders Across the Country Rally for Abortion Access

Washington, D.C.–On Saturday, May 14, faith leaders along with fellow abortion rights supporters came together across the country at the “Bans Off Our Bodies”  rallies to send a message loud and clear: All people deserve access to the abortion care they need, when they need it, in the community they live in and trust.

“Bans Off Our Bodies” is being organized by Planned Parenthood Federation of America, Planned Parenthood Action Fund, Women’s March, MoveOn, UltraViolet, the Liberate Abortion Coalition, and other allies across the progressive movement.

Rev. Jennifer Butler, CEO of Faith in Public Life

“As a pastor, I support a woman’s freedom to decide whether she should have an abortion or not. This is a matter of human dignity and it’s a matter of protecting women’s moral agency. The majority of religious people in this country support a woman’s right to decide.”

Jeanné Lewis, Incoming Interim CEO of Faith in Public Life

“As a woman of faith, I believe that every single person is a beloved child of god and has dignity. This includes people contemplating having an abortion and people contemplating whether or not to be parents. I believe every single person should have the choice to decide what to do for their bodies, for their families and for their futures.”

Minister Shavonne Williams, Georgia Organizing Ambassador, Faith in Public Life

“We are seeing faith being hijacked as a reason to place unjust burdens on the least of these. So today, I’m here saying because of my faith… we have to speak out against these unjust things that are going to take away people’s personal freedoms.”
