FAITH IN PUBLIC LIFE RECEIVES TRANSFORMATIONAL DONATION FROM MACKENZIE SCOTT TO BUILD PROGRESSIVE FAITH MOVEMENT, FIGHT FOR RACIAL EQUITY

FPL recognized as one of 286 orgs to receive donation from philanthropist, writer Scott

Washington, DC—Faith in Public Life, a national movement of faith leaders united in pursuit of justice and equality, announced today that the organization has just received a transformational contribution from visionary philanthropist MacKenzie Scott. FPL was one of 286 organizations to receive a donation today, including several other faith-based groups.

“We’re incredibly grateful to MacKenzie Scott for her visionary contribution to the diverse progressive faith movement’s work to empower communities that are chronically underserved and excluded,” said Faith in Public Life CEO, Rev. Jennifer Butler. “It will dramatically increase our capacity to transform this nation into a multiracial, multifaith democracy in the face of rising white Christian nationalism.”

“This grant comes at a crucial time for our organization,” Rev. Butler continued. “Faith in Public Life’s ongoing long-term strategic planning now stands on even firmer footing as we chart the way forward to deepen our work, broaden our reach, empower our neighbors, and make it all sustainable for years to come.”

The progressive faith movement has made a resurgence in recent years, with the movement growing to fight Christian nationalism and the religious right. In the past few years alone, Faith in Public Life has tripled its organizational staff, quadrupled its annual budget and established permanent offices in several battleground states.

“Religious leaders galvanize our neighbors in the face of apathy, organize our communities in an age of individualism, shine the light of truth in an age of lies, and call us to believe in a future of thriving rather than scarcity and inequity,” Rev. Butler said. “We can now do this work on a more impactful level than ever before.”
