As Kids Vaccine Rollout Begins Across Florida, Faith Leaders Step Up to Help Families “Keep the Faith, Get Vaccinated”

Jacksonville, FL — As the Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine for kids ages 5-11 rollout begins across the state of Florida and with Gov. Ron DeSantis now saying Florida will not have state-run vaccination sites for children, Florida faith leaders are stepping up to help families “Keep the Faith, Get Vaccinated.” Faith in Public Life, a national network of more than 50,000 faith leaders, is partnering with local communities across Florida, through education and spreading the word that treating each other as you wish to be treated is getting the vaccine because it keeps your loved ones and neighbors safe. The campaign provides online factsheets and vaccine education through grassroots, on-the-ground organizing.

Joey McKinnon, Florida Director of Faith in Public Life:

Protecting and loving our neighbor is a core value of faith traditions everywhere–getting vaccinated is an expression of that. As a parent, I know getting our school-aged kids vaccinated will help keep them healthy and provide peace of mind to families here in Florida. The FDA approved Pfizer kids vaccine is a way for our communities to get back to normal and to finally put this pandemic behind us.”

Pastor R.L. Gundy, Mt. Sinai Baptist Missionary Baptist Church, Jacksonville, FL:

“My church and I have been praying every week for an end to this pandemic, and we rejoiced when the first vaccines became available to the most vulnerable members of our congregation. We rejoice again today at the opportunity to protect our children, our most precious assets, from the onslaught of COVID-19. I call on all my fellow faith leaders to come together in the most important ministry work of our lives: shepherding our congregations, especially families with children, to the vaccine and healthy outcomes.”
