Atlanta Clergy Call on Senator Johnny Isakson to Defend Health Care and Vote “No” on AHCA

Atlanta, Ga. — On Thursday, June 22nd at 2 p.m. ET, Georgia clergy will hold a press conference at Society of St. Vincent de Paul Georgia to call on Sen. Johnny Isakson to vote “no” on Congress’ cruel, destructive and immoral American Health Care Act (AHCA).

The U.S. Senate is expected to vote the bill in the coming weeks. Senator Isakson faces a historic moral test. Clergy from all over the state are calling on him to stand up for children, seniors and people with pre-existing conditions.

Deep cuts to Medicaid through a cap on federal funding would imperil at-risk Georgians and threaten hospitals’ bottom line. Almost 2 million Georgia children, seniors, veterans and people with disabilities receive critical health coverage through the Medicaid program. The AHCA threatens the care of these vulnerable Georgians by cutting federal Medicaid funding in Georgia by $4 billion over 10 years.
