National Faith Leader Denounces Rumors of Trump Administration’s Refusal to Accept Refugees in Upcoming Year

Washington, D.C. -- News reports are suggesting the Trump administration may set the refugee cap to zero in 2020. This would violate American obligations under international law.

Rev. Jennifer Butler, CEO, Faith in Public Life:

“My faith teaches that how we treat refugees is how we treat God. If we refuse to welcome people who are fleeing life-threatening persecution and violence, we treat God with profound contempt. The administration must not impose this evil policy, or we will be complicit in the death of thousands of people. The United States of America has a rich history of providing a permanent home for refugees, and we are better for it. Our refugee neighbors bless our faith communities immensely, and we stand unequivocally with them in calling for the Trump Administration to continue welcoming refugees. This is our nation’s moral responsibility. We neglect it at the peril of our souls.”
