SCOTUS Allows Trump’s Unjust Asylum Policy, National Progressive Faith Leader Demands Change

Washington, D.C. -- The Supreme Court has temporarily ruled that the Trump administration can ban people from seeking asylum in the U.S. if they are first in Mexico. Litigation on the case continues, and the Supreme Court will need to make a permanent ruling in the future.

Rev. Jennifer Butler, CEO, Faith in Public Life (Washington, DC):

“The Trump administration’s ban on asylum seekers is a death sentence for families fleeing violence and seeking safety. Upholding this evil policy leaves the blood of those desperately in need on the court’s marble facade. The United States has an obligation under international law, federal law and God’s law to accept asylum seekers. I pray they fulfill this solemn moral responsibility.”
