National Faith Leader Denounces HHS Rights Rollback Opening Door to Discrimination

Washington, D.C. -- The Department of Health and Human Services proposed a rule that would allow foster care and adoption agencies which receive federal grants to discriminate on the basis of sexual orientation or religion. This policy would allow adoption agencies to refuse to place children in loving stable homes.

Rev. Jennifer Butler, CEO, Faith in Public Life:

“As a pastor I am dismayed that the Trump Administration will now allow religious agencies to use taxpayer dollars to deny services and care to vulnerable populations. As a Christian, I implore other Christians to serve the least of these rather than seeking to use religion to exclude others. And as an American who treasures religious freedom I remind us that our constitution protects religious belief, but forbids the use of government funds to help believers harm or deny services to particular groups of people.”
