National Faith Leader Salutes Introduction of Anti-LGBTQ Discrimination Bill

Washington, D.C. -- A group of Representatives introduced legislation to combat discrimination against LGBTQ people. The Fairness for All Act recognizes the problem of discrimination and is supported by conservative and moderate religious groups.

Rev. Jennifer Butler, CEO, Faith in Public Life (Washington, DC):

“The Fairness for All Act is an important step toward recognizing core principles of all faiths: the importance of justice and equality for all. I’m encouraged to see a coalition including conservative faith groups recognize that discrimination against LGBTQ people is real and that protections are needed. Building bridges across theological lines around shared values of dignity, fairness and family leads to political progress.

The coming debate about policy details is important, but today is a historic move in the right direction. I pray that lawmakers include even more robust protections for our LGBTQ family and neighbors. We must put our values into practice by passing into law comprehensive nondiscrimination protections at work, education and housing for everyone.”
