National Christian Leader Condemns Hanukkah Stabbing and Church Shooting

Washington, D.C. -- On Saturday, five people were stabbed as they celebrated Hanukkah at a rabbi’s home outside of New York City in what investigators are calling an act of domestic terrorism. On Sunday, a shooting occurred at the West Freeway Church of Christ in White Settlement,Texas, near Fort Worth, killing three.

Rev. Jennifer Butler, CEO, Faith in Public Life (Washington, DC):

“As a pastor and the leader of a network of 50,000 faith leaders nationwide, I believe all people of faith must unite to defeat anti-Semitism and end gun violence targeting religious communities. Everyone must be free and safe to celebrate and live out their faith. The terrifying rise in anti-Semitism and the trauma of gun violence in houses of worship leave scars on our country. I pray that we build a society where every person can attend a holiday party or a worship service without fear. My faith demands we not rest until that hope is a reality.”

Faith in Public Life is a national network of over 50,000 clergy and faith leaders united in the prophetic pursuit of justice and the common good.
