Amid Impeachment Proceedings, 1,400 Faith Leaders Call on Congress to Follow the Truth

Washington, D.C. -- 1,400 faith leaders from across the nation have signed a moral declaration demanding that Members of Congress follow the truth wherever it leads during impeachment proceedings against President Trump. The president stands accused of soliciting interference from the Ukrainian government in the 2020 presidential election.

“As people of faith and Americans, we believe the light of transparency and truth will protect us from tyranny,” the letter states. “For these reasons, we commend the initiation of an impeachment inquiry into President Trump and call for it to be faithfully executed. Congress must now have the courage to follow the truth wherever it leads and fulfill its constitutional responsibility to uphold democratic principles and the rule of law.”

Rev. Jennifer Butler, CEO of Faith in Public Life, added:

“No one is above the law, especially the president. Congress has a moral and constitutional responsibility, regardless of party, to defend democracy from abuse of power and foreign interference. I pray that Members of Congress have the courage to follow the truth wherever it leads and hold the president accountable for any wrongdoing discovered.”
