National Faith Network Denounces Proposed Immigration Changes as Cruel and Inhumane

Washington, D.C. --  Faith in Public Life, a national multi-faith network of nearly 50,000 clergy and faith leaders, submitted a public comment to oppose the Trump administration’s  proposed changes to the “public charge” rule that would impact millions of immigrant families. The changes would impose a ‘wealth test’ on prospective immigrants and would force working low-income parents to choose between providing for their families or being forced to leave the country.

The comment reads, in part: “The faith community has spoken out at every turn as this administration has attacked immigrant families and communities. We do so again today, and will continue to do so as long as politicians seek to exploit immigrants and turn neighbor against neighbor. Across our diverse traditions, we share a religious commitment to treating newcomers to our nation with the same dignity, respect and compassion that everyone deserves.”
