National Faith Leader Denounces Militarization of Border

Washington, D.C. -- President Donald Trump will soon sign a proclamation directing agencies to deploy the National Guard to the southwest border. In light of this development, a national faith leaders has issued the following statement.

Rev. Jennifer Butler, CEO, Faith in Public Life, and Former Chair of the White House Council on Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships:

“A border should be a place of peace. Listening to our border communities makes it clear that they do not want or need the National Guard. President Trump is planning to use the National Guard in a place they aren’t needed to soothe racist fears.

My faith calls me to a victory over this kind of fear. I pray that President Trump might know this peace and refrain from sending the National Guard to the US-Mexico border.”
