Ahead of Mother’s Day, 1,000 Faith Leaders Call on Congress to Protect Immigrant Moms

WASHINGTON, D.C. - As our nation prepares to celebrate mothers across the country, 1,000 faith leaders have signed a national letter calling on Congress to uphold immigration policies that protect and unite immigrant and refugee families. To read the letter and a full list of signers, click here.

“Moms make our families, congregations and nation work,” the letter states. As people of faith, we value the sanctity of the family and believe that the government should act to bring families together, not keep them apart. No one benefits when mothers and their families can’t be together on Mother’s Day or any other day. We pray that Congress recognizes this truth and protects all families by opposing immigration and refugee policies that harm and separate mothers from their children.”

Faith leaders are calling on Congress to stop the shameful detention of pregnant immigrant women, to defund harmful immigration enforcement that separates children from their moms, to reject efforts to curtail family immigration, to protect the refugee resettlement program, and to offer dreamers and Temporary Protected Status (TPS) holders a path to citizenship, without compromising family unity or undercutting other communities.

In addition, faith leaders across the country delivered giant Mother’s Day cards to Members of Congress urging them to honor immigrant and refugee moms. To view photos, click here.
