GA Faith Leaders Applaud Rep. John Lewis’ Leadership on Congressional Sit-In to Address Gun Violence

Atlanta, GA -- Rep. John Lewis (D-Ga.) led a sit-in on the House floor on Wednesday to demand a vote on the "no fly, no gun" bill, a bipartisan measure that would ban the sale of guns to suspected terrorists on the government's no-fly list. Outcry, a prominent coalition of faith leaders against gun violence, have released the following statement.

Rabbi Peter Berg, Senior Rabbi, The Temple, Atlanta
"We applaud the tremendous leadership of one of Georgia’s greatest sons, Rep. John Lewis, as he works to protect millions of Americans from gun violence. As our nation bears witness to this extraordinary act of civil disobedience on the House floor, I hope that our state lawmakers will take heed. Mass shootings like the ones seen in Orlando, San Bernardino, Sandy Hook and in Charleston prove that gun violence makes us a more violent, less moral society. We cannot afford any more tragedies. Every life is precious and needs to be protected. Georgians of faith stand with Rep. Lewis and lawmakers of both parties who are working to ensure a safer future for us all."
