Georgia’s First Muslim State Senator to be Sworn into the Legislature

 

ATLANTA, Ga. -- On Monday, January 14th, State Senator-elect Sheikh Rahman will be sworn in as the first Muslim immigrant to serve in the Georgia State representing Gwinnett County’s fifth district. Rahman came to the U.S. from Bangladesh in 1981. He graduated from the University of Georgia in 1995.

 

Immediately following the swearing in, prominent clergy representing a broad swath of faiths will hold a “prayer ceremony” for Rahman as he begins his role in uniting all of us.

Multi-cultural, interfaith ceremony with Georgia political, civic, religious leaders and dignitaries
