Rev. Lesley Jones: Pastor of the People
Rev. Lesley Jones founded Truth & Destiny Covenant Ministries in Cincinnati in 2003 to be a place of hope and healing for all people -- especially those who have been excluded from places of worship because their sexual orientation or gender identity. The longtime leader sees herself as “a pastor for the people” more than a leader of a church.
“My calling is to really move the Jesus and justice work,” Jones said. “When I look at all of the issues we are faced with today, I see we have a great moral crisis in our country. Actions must be taken.”
Recently, the pastor visited Washington, D.C., where she spent time with fellow LGBTQ-affirming people of faith advocating for the Equality Act, which was recently passed in the House of Representatives.
As a same-gender loving woman, Jones would bring her children to protests, rallies, meetings, and church services.
They grew up having open conversations about social justice and LGBTQ issues.
“Mainly I just referred back to scripture from Matthew 22:37-39 to ‘Love the Lord with all your heart and love your neighbor as yourself,’” Jone said.
