Faith & Community Leaders Applaud Mayor Dailey and the City Commission for Banning Conversion Therapy in Tallahassee

Tallahassee, FL -- On Wednesday, April 8, the Tallahassee City Commission voted unanimously to ban LGBTQ conversion therapy in the city. Conversion therapy is a spiritually and psychologically abusive practice. The medical and psychological communities reject it, and survivors say it is traumatizing. Conversion therapy denies the God-given dignity of LGBTQ youth who are subjected to it.

Mayor John Dailey, City of Tallahassee:

“I proudly made the motion to ban conversion therapy in Tallahassee and tonight we instituted that ban. This is a human rights issue, and as long as I’m Mayor, we will be unequivocal in our support of LGBTQ+ rights and the protection of our youth.”

Rev. Joe Parramore, President, New Journey Ministries:

“In the early 1980s I had no one to protect me from this medieval form of abuse and torture. Today, the Tallahassee City Commission and Mayor saved countless lives. I am grateful we have leadership in our city that seeks to protect our LGBTQ youth.”

Jon Harris Maruer, Equality Florida:

“Every mainstream medical and mental health association has debunked this fraudulent, dangerous practice.  We applaud Mayor Dailey and the Tallahassee City Commission for showing that they clearly stand on the side of sound science and the LGBTQ community.”
