Leader of National Faith Network Issues Statement on Pittsburgh Synagogue Shooting

Washington, D.C. -- A gunman opened fire in a Pittsburgh synagogue, leaving 11 people dead and six others injured. In light of this development, Faith in Public Life has released the following statement.

Rev. Jennifer Butler, former chair of the White House Council on Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships, and CEO, Faith in Public Life:

"As a pastor and mother, my heart breaks for the dead, the injured and the grieving at Tree of Life Congregation. This is a moment for prayer and action in the face of antisemitism and gunfire. People of faith will work to heal our communities and to confront hatred. And it's long past time for our elected officials to step up and do their part to stop the proliferation of gun violence and white nationalism. Prayer and grief must be followed by commitment and action."
