Joan Chittister, a Benedictine Sister of Erie, has been one of America's key visionary spiritual voices for more than thirty years. A social psychologist and communications theorist with a doctorate from Penn State University, she a best selling author and well-known international lecturer. Sister Joan presently serves as the co-chair of the Global Peace Initiative of Women, a partner organization of the United Nations, facilitating a worldwide network of women peace builders, especially in the Middle East. Her most recent books include The Way We Were and Called to Question, a First Place Catholic Press Association 2005 award winner. A regular columnist for the National Catholic Reporter, Sister Joan has received 11 honorary degrees and awards and recognition from countless organizations for her work for justice, peace and equality, especially for women — in the Church and in society.
