“This is proof that God is real…This is proof. This is wonderful.”
This morning I heard from my good friend Ben Poston, who’s been working on this story for almost as long as I’ve known him, that as a result of his reporting a young man named Joshua Kezer has been released from prison after serving 14 years for a murder he didn’t commit.
“This is proof that God is real,” Kezer said from prison. “This is proof. This is wonderful.”
Although Joshua wasn’t on death row, his wrongful conviction on a murder charge is yet another exhibit in the case against capital punishment, in which religious leaders play a key role. From Maryland to New Mexico to the national scene, they are driving real progress in this long-running, difficult movement. I support their efforts not just because of their theology, but because of the uncounted Joshua Kezers who don’t have Ben Postons working to set them free.

wow…as a journalism grad student, this reinforces the very reason I entered J-School. I pray the states considering measures against capital punishment will continue to have their eyes opened by stories like these.
