Different medium, same message
In addition to Faithful America’s Christian radio spot responding to Glenn Beck’s attacks on social justice, leaders of the faith community are standing up to Beck with a print ad in the most recent edition of the Forward. The centerfold ad, sponsored by Jewish Funds for Justice (which was the subject of one of Beck’s most truly hateful tirades), is signed by more than 250 supporters of the group’s work for social justice, including numerous rabbis, Christian clergy, and leaders of organizations such as the American Jewish Committee and the Center for Community Change. It states:
On May 28, on his nationally syndicated radio show, Glenn Beck read an excerpt from aWashington Post column by Jewish Funds for Justice President Simon Greer. In it, Simon argued that we are at our best as a society when we put humankind and the common good first. Beck responded: “This leads to death camps. A Jew, of all people, should know that. This is exactly the kind of talk that led to the death camps in Germany: ‘put humankind and the common good first.’ ”

I find Glenn Beck to be spot on when it comes to political and religious commentary.
Beck has Nazi tourettes. The only era of history he even remotely knows anything about is Nazi Germany so that’s the only thing he can relate anything to.
When the founding fathers set this country up I can prove to you they were thinking of the common good first.
The very first charge laid against King George the III in the Declaration of Independence was:
He has refused his Assent to Laws, the most wholesome and necessary for the public good.
Looks like Beck hasn’t even read the Dec. of Ind.!
One more thing:
“We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the GENERAL WELFARE, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.” (Preamble to the US Constitution)

In this instance, Beck was not talking about “social welfare”. His comment was about how putting humankind and the common good first leads to death camps. That was the issue I was addressing.
That being said I made no mention of the Gospel so how could I have perverted it? I also made no mention of social justice nor the redistribution of wealth.
You’re right general welfare means the general good. Specifically, it means the good fortune, health, happiness, and prosperity of humanity.
So for Beck to say that putting humankind and the common good first leads to death camps is just moronic and it makes no sense … unless he doesn’t consider Jews, Gypsies, and everyone else that was exterminated in those camps to be part of humankind (which I know is not the case).
If the Nazis had put HUMANKIND first and not GERMANS first there never would have been death camps.
