Faith Leaders Denounce Right-Wing Organization Behind “Kill at Will” Laws

Demonstrators, activists and community leaders gathered yesterday in Washington, DC outside the offices of the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) a secretive group of right-wing lobbyists which is responsible for pushing the “stand your ground” laws that have come under scrutiny since Trayvon Martin’s tragic death at the hand of a vigilante gunman.

Progressive faith leaders, including FPL’s own Rev. Jennifer Butler and Rev. Michael Livingston, Director of the National Council of Churches Poverty Initiative, joined the protest to call attention to the moral dimension of the debate over these right-wing laws and Trayvon’s senseless killing:

    All of you bleeding hearts that would have us all disarmed. You need to read your history. Nazi Germany disarmed their populace, Communist Russia, China, etc. disarmed their populace. In Mexico, the narcos are the only citizens that have weapons and you can see how well that’s working. Disarming the citizens of a country is the first step to a dictatorship. America will not be disarmed and will not give in to a dicatorship.

    Janet…you need to read your Bible. The “history” you reference has nothing to do with “stand your ground laws” which are nothing more that license to murder without penalty (which, by the way, Nazi brown shirts had).
