Christian Radio: Give up Glenn Beck for Lent, Ctd.

Last week Faithful America drew attention to its campaign to keep Glenn Beck off of Salem Communications-owned radio in New York with a suggestion that the Christian stations “give up Glenn Beck for Lent.”

Over the weekend, The Christian Post picked up the story, apparently piquing Beck’s interest. This morning on his radio show, Beck repeated his attacks and gave his explanation for why people from across the faith spectrum are pushing back on his fear-mongering.

BECK: Look, they’re blocking the exits, if you will. If you are planning on fundamentally transforming something and you’re going to use a crisis to do it, you need to make sure that you have all of the exits covered and one of the the exits is faith–one of the things to rebuild is faith. We will gather together and we will find out who we are as individuals. But if you now have moved the faith business into the Marxist realm and into the Marxist business, well then, they come running to you for the answer and what you trusted is now telling you ‘no, no, go back to them, that’s the answer.’ That’s real trouble. And what they’ve done is they have infiltrated the churches.”

Now I don’t speak crazy, so I’m not sure what Beck is talking about here. But I think he’s saying a united group of “progressives” is in the process of trying to systematically re-engineer society at all levels. Finding that religions across the spectrum emphasize social justice serves as evidence to him that this conspiracy has expanded to communities of faith.

One of the major shortcomings of this conspiracy theory is the fact that the common good has been a mainstream religious concept for centuries. But we all know what facts often do to a good story…
