Chris Christie Defends Muslim Judge: “Tired of Dealing with the Crazies”

July 28, 2011, 11:09 am | Posted by Nick Sementelli

It’s been a good two days for religious freedom.

In addition to Herman Cain’s meeting with Muslim leaders and apology for his extreme rhetoric, New Jersey Governor Chris Christie stepped up to defend a Muslim judge who had come under fire from anti-Islam activists.

In a rare move for a conservative leader, Christie called out these extremists for what they are:

“It’s just crazy, and I’m tired of dealing with the crazies,” he said. “It’s just unnecessary to be accusing this guy of things just because of his religious background. I’m happy that he’s willing to serve after all this baloney.”

Hopefully Cain and Christie’s statements will help break the spell of conservative silence in the face of increasingly vitrolic anti-Muslim rhetoric.
